Fate of Mixed Martial Arts in New York Still Undecided

 |

According to MMAWeekly.com, the fate of mixed martial arts in the state of New York is still undecided.
Reports started circulating that the proposed bill (to regulate MMA in New York) had been voted down and rejected, but in fact the bill was laid aside until next week. According to MMA Weekly, this fact was confirmed by New York State Assemblyman Steve Englebright's office.
News broke on Wednesday that the Tourism, Arts and Sports Development committee had soundly rejected the idea of sanctioning mixed martial arts fighting in New York. Apparently some members of the committee were "unsure" about their votes, and some were just not present, so the group will vote on the bill sometime next week.
Some are speculating that Dana White's "big announcement" had to do with the legalization of mixed martial arts fighting in New York. They are saying that the announcement would have been accompanied by a plan to host a UFC show at Madison Square Gardens.
Others are saying that this can't be the case, due to the fact that Dana White said that the "announcement" was a "deal that had already been signed". This wouldn't lend credence to the idea that the announcement had to do with the legalization of mixed martial arts in New York. Also, Dana White has apparently come out and said that the "announcement" has nothing to do with MMA being legalized in New York. White continues to rule out rumored possibilities, leaving fans to wonder just what he is planning on announcing.
We'll find out next week (hopefully). We'll also find out the fate of this bill when committee members convene to vote on the bill sometime next week.
