Dana White Speaks Out on Possible Kimbo Slice / Chuck Liddell Fight

 |

A Chuck Liddell / Kimbo Slice fight in the Octagon might be closer than you think.
In an interview with deadspin.com, Dana White was asked about a possible Liddell / Slice match-up. Instead of being instantly dismissive of a possible match-up, White seemed to entertain the possibility, saying that if Slice "fought anybody that mattered", White would book the match "tomorrow".
White has been known to rag on the EliteXC promotion which is the home to Kimbo Slice, saying that the promotion thrives on booking "freak show bouts". However, White seems to have some respect for the toughness of Kimbo Slice, and can't deny the revenues that a Slice / Liddell battle would generate for his company.
Slice would obviously need to work on his technical skills in order to stand in the ring with any semi-respectable UFC fighter. It's not all about how hard you can hit - you need to be able to fight on the ground and defend properly as well. Slice is not there yet.
According to several sources, Forrest Griffin knocked Kimbo Slice out with a kick to the head in a sparring match last week. You can only imagine what Liddell, one of the hardest strikers in the UFC, would do to Slice if they fought in a match right now.
I think that Slice will eventually end up in the UFC. He is a very marketable name, however he needs to vastly improve the quality of his opponents and technical skills before he can be considered a legitimate mixed martial arts fighter. Tank Abbott and Bo Cantrell are just not going to cut it.
